Cute and simple December 5, 2008 I bought this for my baby nephew, thinking it might be the Lowly Worm story I had memorized when I was teeny. It's not, but was still a good purchase. It's even smaller than a regular board book (check the measurements) and is a word book rather than a story. So it will probably be a good take-along more than for story time.
The pictures are classic Richard Scarry, and include some fun imaginary ones (Egg Car) along with fire truck, etc. It gets 4 stars from me because I don't consider it a must-have, but it's a great intro to Scarry, especially for a child who loves vehicles. At the low price, if you know what you're getting, you won't be disappointed.
H and I are missing November 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The size is not a problem from me. This book is meant to be held by small hands. My daughter has other books this size that she walks around with pretty much all day.
What bothers me is that two letters are missing. I thought I got a defective copy but I read another reviewer count 24 letters represented in this book. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. H and I are missing in this book. No room for a Hippo car & Igloo car? No Humvee & Ice Truck?
Because of this egregious (and shameful!) mistake, I'm tempted to give it an even lower rating. But the fact is, my daughter likes it and responds to it. (She yells out "Meow!Gaaar!" when the cat is driving one of the vehicles) So, yeah, she'll get the silliness of animals driving silly vehicles, but she won't be learning the alphabet from this book, that's for sure.
Small but Cute August 19, 2008 This book is very small. That makes it nice to carry around, but hard to see the little drawings on the pages. Our 15 month old daughter doesn't understand all the crazy cars (pickle car, toothpaste car, etc.), we have a good time reading it occasionally. If you're interested in a Richard Scary book, I would recommend a larger book with more going on on each page. My nephew has a huge one that he loves to stare at.
My son loves this book... August 3, 2008 I bought this book as filler, to receive free shipping. It's a small, inexpensive book. The illustrations are very cute and the format is nice. It has the letter of the alphabet and then vehicles that start with that letter. It's been great alphabet and two-word phrase practice for my 22-month old. He enjoys reading this book with me and he now says "garbage truck" and "big truck." I'm very happy I decided on this book. It is surprisingly small, about four-inches square, but cute, nontheless.
Great book for the car! June 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)
Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.
It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!
