Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales January 9, 2009 It's a beautifully complete book with all of her stories and incredible illustrations. It's made all the more special and substantial with the protective sleeve insert. Something that can be shared and passed down from generation to generation...
An excellent complete edition of great stories December 22, 2008 Who hasn't heard of Peter Rabbit? These are some of the best children's art and stories in the English language, presented in a single hardcover volume, with a nice slipcover covered by a sturdy hard box. What's not to love? There is one misgiving I have about the stories and that is that the pictures were evidently larger in the original books, and while they are reproduced well here, they are definitely on the small side. You should be warned that the language was definitely written in a pre-Dick and Jane era, when children's authors weren't afraid to throw in a few big words. There are also quite a few English and rural colloquialisms. All of this makes it difficult for littler readers to follow, but this shouldn't pose too big of a problem. The stories are also in many (not all!) cases rather slow-moving for a modern audience, like Milne's Pooh books. None of these things should stop you from buying and reading these with your kids. Indeed, it will help expose them to another way of thinking about the world, not so hurried, jaded, competitive, or anxious to look "cool."
Fantastic Book -Complete Tales Makes This a Collectible! December 21, 2008 This heavy and thick volume of Beatrix Potter's Tales is beyond what I expected. The drawings are fantastic, of course her stories are just wonderful, and I would think this will become a hard to find book. It is as much a pleasure for adults (maybe even more so), as it is for children. It is in a very nice hard slipcase for protection. Frankly, this is a treasure that I will keep forever and enjoy throughout the years! Worth every cent, even though a little more costly than most children's books. It's hard to put a real value on a collection like this!
Faithful reproduction December 3, 2008 When I was a child back in the 1940s, my dad bought several of MS Potter's books included in this complication. When I got them they were used, but in good condition. This book is very faithful in its quality of execution. It is a great read for children AND adults. It speaks of a much simpler time and teaches the values everyone needs to have. We use ours as a 'coffey table' book, and have has many positive comments from our friends.
the MOST beautiful, sweetest book - exquisite quality November 29, 2008 this is truly a treasury and a treasure - the big book version here gives a child the Big Picture - since little kids love little books their size, i would also get them one of the boxed sets of the little books for them to carry around and read on their own - also consider buying the audio cd so a child can read/listen to the stories over and over but an adult doesn't haven't to read them over and over to them --- and you must watch the dvd of Miss Potter, which was a very special movie in all ways - give yourself the complete Beatrix Potter experience!
