Crazy-good pop ups, but the text doesn't have much to it December 9, 2008 The large book (~12"x9") has huge pop ups that jump out up to more than 11"! For small readers, this means the creatures are coming right at you. This should impress any child (and adults).
There are six 2-page spreads covering different sea creatures: leafy sea dragon, lionfish, tiger shark, great devil ray, giant squid, and viperfish. There is text on each page asking several rhyming "If (descriptive text)" followed by "Then you are probably facing..." The text is a bit silly and not entirely on point in some cases (if you are filled with dread - great devil ray). But the great pop ups make up for it.
The pop ups open and close smoothly for the most part (my shark doesn't pop out completely on his left side). As with most pop-up books, I always wish there were more pages.
Overall this book should appeal to young readers and collectors of children's pop-up books.
fantastic pop-up technology ! October 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
These pop-up sea creatures are exceptional. I watch children's faces as I open each page. The pictures make great talking points at story time.
Each pop-up features a weird, wonderful fish and a lovely set of facts August 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From lionfish to devil rays and tiger sharks, POP-UP SEA CREATURES provides an excellent survey of deep sea animals from giant squid to viperfish and sharks. Each pop-up features a weird, wonderful fish and a lovely set of facts, making this suitable not for library lending but for gifting or home use.
sweet, but short February 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 4-year old loved this book, and it was a big hit in pre-school. The illustrations are detailed and colorful. The down side - there are only 6 creatures featured, as each takes up a full 2-page spread. All in all, a great book that will see a lot of use.
