3 out of 5 stars It's the Music   November 12, 2008
We have a baby boy who is now about 6 weeks old. Our nursery was well made up several months before his birth and one of the things my wife purchased was the "Symphony-in-Motion Deluxe Remote Control Mobile." We clamped it on the edge of the crib. It's a gaudy-looking thing with neon colors that don't fit the decor of the babies room at all. Oh well, if it only somehow works at whatever it's supposed to do.

What it does can be divided into two parts. First, there's the mobile. It has three arms and slowly rotates dangling some sappy, weird-looking animal replicas, round balls, and some umbrella-like shields. Now, how this is supposed to interest the child, well, I have no idea. In fact, our boy is not interested in it. He seldom looks at it or follows the motions. When he does, he appears to get bored easily. Maybe he's still too young. Maybe he just has better taste. When we take him outside he's interested in everything around and he loves riding in the car and looking out the window.

A second part to the mobile is a music box which will play up to 15 minutes of selections from Bach, Beethoven and/or Mozart. The music attracts his attention and often stops him from crying. The musical selections are very simple and are probably done up on a piano-like keyboard synthesizer. I'd say the music is soft and nicely done and our boy obviously enjoys it. Sometimes he'll lie there and go to sleep listening to music. If anything, we'd like the selections to be a lot longer. Well, if your wondering about my tastes, when I'm there we'll mostly be listening to Bach. The Mozart and Beethoven selections are rather good, too. This music thing is a very interesting discovery. We plan to get a CD player or iPod doc for his room. After all, listening to these very limited selections over the long term will get to anybody. I think he'll enjoy some of our classical music selections. I know he will, in fact, because I've played some Bach and Beethoven on my stereo for him and he listens attentively.

I've never used the remote control, in-as-much as I only turn the mobile/music box on when I place him in the crib. My wife has used it and doesn't like it. In any case, if I had to evaluate the total effect and what I like about the toy, it's the music.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best   November 5, 2008
We've tried a lot of baby mobiles and this one is the best. Great music. Nice remote control feature so you can control it without enteirng the room to disturb baby, and durable.

I bought this for my daughter. It is too big an cumbersome. It is flimsy. It stopped rotating after less than 1 month. The music was lovely, but please don't waste your money.
