Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Birth - 10 months. Studies have found that babies are fascinated by the high-contrast extremes of colors such as black, white and red designs. This padded activity gym amuses baby while helping develop motor skills in a safe and playful environment. 3 toys hang at varied heights from the safe, flexible arches. Machine washable.

Editorial Review
Sometimes you just have to put down your little bundle of joy and give your arms a rest! But where can you set someone who may not be able to sit upright? The Gymini 3-D Activity Gym may be the perfect answer. This award-winning portable, washable gym is easy to assemble. Simply spread the 3-foot-square quilt on the floor and enjoy a vivid animal circus in red, white, and black. Slide two pliable arches into the corner sockets of the quilt, so that they cross diagonally. Clip the beads, rattles, and mirrors into the hole-punched arches. The dangles can be repositioned for endless variety. Babies can lie on their backs and stare up at the colorful dangling toys. The gym will improve babies' hand-eye coordination, and soon they'll be reaching, stretching, kicking, pulling, and rolling--an adorable sight! To put away the gym, simply remove the arches, fold up the quilt, and tuck all the parts into a handy waterproof carrying case. --Kathryn Gustafson

5 out of 5 stars Great!!!   August 3, 2008
This entertains my 7 week old daughter for about 15-20 mins giving me some much needed hands free time. She loves staring at the black and white arches. This is a must play mat!

This is a lightly padded fabric mat (machine washable) with two arches from which you can dangle toys. You can put baby on her back to look up at the toys or on her tummy to make the famed "tummy time" more tolerable. There are many models of this gym by Tiny Love; I prefer this red, white, and black one because its high contrast is good for stimulating vision in the newest babies.

I really do believe that this is the only toy you need until baby is sitting up (although a mobile and a mirror are good too). To be honest my initial reaction was that these gyms are a lot of $ for something the babe will outgrow by 5 months. However, we received this as a hand-me-down and now understand that it would be worth the $. It is supposed to develop visual tracking, but our baby was reaching for the objects from day one. Her interest in the Gymini really picked up at about 2 weeks, and at 6 weeks it was the only way I could put her down for 10 minutes. I don't feel guilty about putting her down on this because I really do believe it has developmental value. My daughter believes that the point of this is to pull the toys off, not just to bat at them. Before that she was really into kicking them.

As previous reviewers have mentioned, you can add things to make it more interesting. In my opinion, the best add-on is the Wind Chimes, also by Tiny Love. We also have a moose by Infantino, which can be pulled down so that it jitters its way back up (that's the most challenging). We used to wrap the spiral Whoozit around one side of an arch, but we took it off once she started using both hands in opposition because I worry that it is a strangulation hazard. We also have a Boppy on it to prop her up for tummy time -- that way she tolerates it a little longer.

Tip: no amount of additional purchases can beat moving the add-on toys around on the arches. Otherwise baby will cease to notice them.

In summary, this is the best baby gift to give a family expecting a newborn. We'll be sad when our daughter outgrows it at 5 months.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, it's for a newborn!   September 13, 2007
I am surprised at reviewers who say that this toy fails to capture a 12-month-old attention. This toy is designed specifically to appeal to the underdeveloped vision of a newborn. It is amazing how well it holds a tiny baby's focus the first day from the hospital while the good-old tried-and-true primary colors fail to do so. We now know that it is easiest for them to see black, white and red. I was astonished and how much calmer my baby was in this gym than anywhere else. He didn't start enjoying other similar environments (playgyms, swings, mats, etc) until he was close to four months! Later we took the toys off the bars and he enjoyed handling them. I'll buy another one for the next baby!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   June 5, 2007
This toy is great - both for baby, and for caregivers. It's very engaging for my son. It's also great for when I'm exhausted...I can put him on the mat and relax next to him - we have a ball!

It comes with some great toys. The soft musical toy is light enough for my young son to hold, and has a non-offensive, soft melody. The rattle is also lightweight, and is perfect for babies just learning to grasp toys. This gym has grown with my son, too, as I've attached more sophisticated toys to it as he becomes more able to play with them.

My son is a tummy-time-hater, and this mat also helps keep him happy while on his tummy.

In addition, this toy folds up and stores easily, helping reduce clutter in the home.

I highly recommend this toy! Best purchase I've made in a long time.
