3 out of 5 stars I really need to try the BPA free ones   October 24, 2008
My daughter- now 2- preferred these bottles over all others we gave her. I've seen some reports of these leaking, but we never had leak problems- and we never did anything special with ours- just tightened them. And they are sturdy- they held up to tons of washing and dropping and you name it. Her gassiness and spit up also went down considerably after we switched her to these. I am having another little girl in about 2 weeks and was hoping to use these bottles for her as well, but with all the BPA concerns...I trashed my old Ventairs. I have not been able to find the BPA free Ventairs in my area, so I'm going to try the Evenflo Comfi BPA free and see how it goes. Now as much as my daughter liked the Ventair - I do have the following complaints...reasons why I'm willing to try the Comfis.

1) the nipple openings need some work. The stage 1 nipples are too slow flow- even for a newborn. We switched my daughter to these bottles from Avents when she was 3 wks old...she was suddenly very cranky and we thought maybe colic was setting in. Turns out she just wasn't getting enough out of her bottles and was crying out of hunger. The stage 2 nipples were too fast flow for this age, so I had to experiment with cutting the nipple openings on the stage 1s to increase the flow just enough. This also makes nipple cleaning more difficult since cutting the nipple hole makes the nipple more prone to tears during cleaning.

2) There are 6 parts to each bottle- that is an awful lot of cleaning and sterilization.

3) For whatever reason, this brand/model does grow mold a little more quickly than other brands and models we tried. It cleans up easily, but it's still pretty gross.

4) The measurement lines wore off pretty quickly.

But, if this new baby doesn't do well with the Comfis (or if I hate them)...I guess I'll track down some of the new BPA free Ventairs.

2 out of 5 stars MOLD WARNING!   September 4, 2008
I threw mine away after discovering mold in the little rubber vent piece at the bottom after the first use. I washed them before the first use of course. Then I placed each piece on my bottle drying rack, waited for them to dry, then reassembled them and put them up in my cupboard. I used one to feed my daughter and it worked just fine, that's not the problem. Then I took it apart to wash it and noticed these litte tiny black specks in the tiny holes in the rubber vent piece--MOLD. So, yeah, I had fed my baby from a bottle that had mold in it. If you have these bottles you CANNOT just let them air dry, you must manually dry them with a paper towel and make sure the vent piece is ABSOLUTELY DRY before re-assembling it.
If you like having a vented bottle, try the Playtex Ventaire "Advanced" model--these are the only bottles I use for my newborn. The vent is completely different, no mold-prone rubber vent holes.

3 out of 5 stars You have to be very careful...   June 28, 2008
The bottles work fine, and all. But you have to be really careful about the vents, if you don't put them in just right, so all the small air holes in the bottom are covered, it leaks, and that waste formula and water.

1 out of 5 stars WARNING! Playtex Bottles Contain BPA Bisphenol-A.   April 9, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

Playtex Ventaire Bottles are NOT Bisphenol-A Free. The Playtex Bottles with the liners are considered ok! I was recently informed about the use of Bisphenol -A in some brands of Baby Bottles, After re-searching Bisphenol -A, I discovered that exposing my baby to harmful chemicals with the potential for long term affects later in life, was definitely not for me!! There are other options out there, all glass bottles are safe, as well as Born Free, Mam by Sassy, Green to Grow and Adrini. The Playtex Bottles with the liners are said to be ok, though the hard plastic shell of the bottle is made using Bisphenol-A, the plastic liner that touches the baby's milk is not! Do your own research. I'm really surprised that the non Bisphenol -A Free bottles haven't been recalled yet! I'm sure it's just a matter of time, before enough people are educated.
