View larger. | Easy Installation and Adjustment The safety of your child depends on the correct installation of his or her car seat. That's why the Frontier offers a truly parent-friendly design for quick and easy set-up and adjustment. First, the premium push-button LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) connectors ensure a fast, simple and tight installation so you know your child is secure. The tangle-free, five-point harness has eight harness heights you can adjust with one hand, and three buckle positions for a snug and secure fit. For added convenience, the headrest adjusts quickly without requiring you to re-thread the straps. True Enhanced Side Impact Protection for Peace of Mind The Frontier also gives you additional peace of mind by featuring engineered true side impact protection. Deep side walls and head support provide advanced shock-absorption and cushioning in side impact collisions, helping to reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) impact foam lining around baby's head and torso absorbs energy in side and rear impacts, cradles baby's head to keep it away from protruding parts, cushions violent side to side movements, and creates a comfortable resting spot. Safe for Growing Children Besides True Enhanced Side Impact Protection, the Frontier boasts other advanced safety features that provide optimum protection. Most importantly, the patented Versa-Tether fastens the top of the car seat to factory installed automobile anchor points, reducing the possibility of a head injury. This system also allows for rear-facing tethering to help keep the seat stable. Comfort and Convenience Car trips should be pleasant, and the Frontier has everything your child needs to relax and enjoy the ride. Dual cup holders are great for sippy cups, snacks and toys, while the armrest invites your little one to sit back and watch the world go by. Great Fit, Easy Install.....if you READ the manual!! November 27, 2008 We have owned the Britax Roundabout, Marathon and now the Frontier and once again, could not be happier with the Britax product.
As others have stated READ THE MANUAL before installing the seat. We are currently using the seat in Harness Mode in the LATCH position and the install was very quick and the fit is very tight, "rock solid".
The harness height adjuster is great as it just slides up and down - no need to remove the straps thru the carseat cover. The LATCH stores nicely in the seat as does the versa tether when not in use.
I like the True Side Impact Protection of the Frontier versus the Marathon, Roundabout, Regent, etc. only have Side Impact Protection (not the extra "wings").
The only "con" I would say is that I am a little worried that the fabric will easily stain on these seats compared to the fabric of the other Britax seats we have owned. The fabric is more like that which you find a "booster" seat than that of the typical convertible carseat which is to be expected I guess given this is a combo seat. It is rougher and pulled much more tightly to the seat.
I would highly recommend this seat to anyone who wants to keep their child in a harness for a longer period of time. Our child is very tall for his age so outgrew the Marathon carseat (max of 65 lbs) prior to even reaching 40 lbs. The Frontier is a great choice for children in similar situations. And it is great b/c it will literally grow with your child.
The BEST Install I Have EVER Had! November 25, 2008 Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat Rushmore
A perfect fit for my '06 Honda Pilot. No side-to-side movement, whatsoever! Great quality car seat - so happy with my purchase!
WAY TOO HARD TO INSTALL! November 25, 2008 I expect better from Britax. In terms of construction, comfort and features, I'd give the Frontier 5 stars. But I want to echo what other reviewers have said about nightmare installation with this seat! I took it to my local police station to get help from a certified safety seat technician, and it took him nearly half an hour to get to the point where we were both satisfied that the seat was properly installed. At least I was able to finally get peace of mind, but many communities don't have this kind of resource, and so many parents may not even know that such a thing is available. What are they supposed to do?
My vehicle is older (a 2000), so it does not have the LATCH system - maybe that's why the Frontier was so difficult to install. An explanation, perhaps, but not a good excuse! Britax, you owe parents and their children more. Of course, the safest "seat" in the world only protects your child if it is installed correctly.
I have not removed the seat from my car since it was installed 8 months ago because 1) I'm afraid I won't be able to reinstall it correctly, and 2) I don't want to go through the incredible hassle. If you need to take a safety seat in and out of your vehicle on a regular basis, I definitely recommend you look at another product!
Cheap mom says this is a great investment November 25, 2008 I am a bargain hunter - if it's not on sale, then it's not a necessity... except for the Britax. I needed a booster seat for our 3yr old daughter. She is petite, so I wanted a booster seat that had the seat belts, but I also wanted the seat to grow with her. The Britax comes with a price tag, but after days of thinking, I told myself to make the investment because our daughter is priceless! In some reviews I read the Britax is large, heavy, the back is too tall, and it's difficult to install. I was surprised to find out this was not true - maybe it's because I'm used to car seats? The Britax is a little wider than I am accustomed to, and I don't see myself carrying it around on my back for fun, but once it is installed, it is very sturdy and looks like it was built with the car. The first thing is the instruction manual: keep it attached to the seat - you can tuck it in behind the car seat and have it handy if you ever need it later. Second, when you install the Britax, move the seat back's cushion to the side and pull the belts tight from the inside of the frame - BIG difference. Do this right and the seat will be grounded like a rock - it's not moving anywhere! The installation belts are looped at the ends so you can get a good grip and PULL! And I LOVE the LATCH system - unlike most car seats that have that metal clip you have to try to catch the metal hook in the seat, then you hurt your fingers trying to unhook it, the Britax LATCH clips are much more sophisticated. They actually have a button that you press to unhook it! (You have to see it to appreciate what I'm talking about). I drive a compact car and the Britax does not block my rear view at all. The seat is very comfortable for my daughter's back and tush (very important - some seats out there have no padding). Although she doesn't use them, the Britax has built-in cupholders on each side that FOLD INSIDE THE SEAT when not in use! Great idea! And the arm rests fold up. The Britax is wide, so my younger daughter's seat cannot fit right next to the Britax. It has to be installed by the door on the other side of the car, but that will not stop me from purchasing a Britax for her, too... it's worth every dollar.
Installation Nightmare November 25, 2008 I want to love this seat. It is everything that my wife and I were looking for: not too bulky, safety harness for large children (our daughter is almost 3 and already ~45lbs.), and LATCH. However, as much as I want to love it, this seat is an absolute nightmare to install. I've installed the seat in three vehicles: a 1995 Mercury Sable (using shoulder belt), an early 2000 Acura TL (using LATCH), and a 2007 Toyota Camry (using LATCH). Each time, it takes roughly thirty minutes to install it and I'm never satisfied that the seat is installed as tightly as it should be.
The general problem is the way the belt/LATCH pass-through on the back of the seat is designed. There are vertical oval holes on either side of the back which the car shoulder belt and seat LATCH system pass through. Once the belt is buckled or LATCH straps are attached, it is impossible to tighten the belt/strap as much as is needed for the seat to be installed securely. The oval holes obstruct the seat belt buckle and LATCH hook-ups, such that the belt/strap are pinched and won't tighten properly.
Though I normally do not need to move this seat between vehicles, the few times I've needed to do so since I purchased it are enough to convince me to start looking for a new seat. The bottom line is that I am not comfortable with securing my daughter in this seat.
