About Graco
In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco. Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world's first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on.

5 out of 5 stars I would recommend this car seat to others   January 5, 2009
We really like this car seat. It was easy to put together and install. The thing I like best about it is that our daughter's head does not seem to flop forward when she is sleeping as much as in other car seats. It seems to be well constructed and attractive. I would recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Safety and convenience in one!   January 5, 2009
I LOVE this booster seat! It is extremely well built and safe. My child looks very comfortable in it. She can sleep easily in it as well. The built in cup holder is definitely a plus...we had another seat with a detachable one and it collapsed every time my daughter tried to put her sippy into it. I love how the seat adjusts to fit your child for years to come. The five point harness can be used up to 65lbs for added safety as well. The straps are very easy to buckle and adjust, and are also easy to loosen and unbuckle. Great seat!!

3 out of 5 stars Comfortable for kid, but very difficult to assemble   January 4, 2009
I bought this at a local store because it looked sturdy and well-built. When I took it home, alas, it was a royal pain in the neck to put together! I'm using the with-harness option, and adjusting the harness height and the crotch position was a true exercise in total frustration. The manual is poorly written and the drawings not helpful.

My toddler seems comfortable in the seat, and it has a cupholder and two small storage compartments. Problems with this made-in-China product have come to surface: one of the arm rests shakes, and the tether strap (for LATCH) is never totally tight. (But the main LATCH straps are doing a good job.)

This car seat was not tested by Consumer Reports so we will not know whether it's a truly safe restraint for our children. We just have to put our trust in the manufacturer.

Anyway, I really hate the assembly required to get this car seat to install properly, and I'm not looking forward to the future day when I need to remove the built-in harness or the entire seatback. Maybe some kind soul could post a video how-to?

3 out of 5 stars great seat, awful cover   January 4, 2009
I've had this seat for about 6 months, and in general I think it's a nice seat and a good value. However, today I had to remove the cover after my child was sick in her seat, and discovered the seat's major drawback- the cover is extremely difficult to remove. I haven't put it back on yet, but I imagine that will be worse. First of all, you have to uninstall the seat from the car in order to get the cover off, which is a huge pain. In every other seat I've owned, you can just pull the cover off to wash it, but not this one. Second, the cover is attached using about 15 elastic loops which hook to various points on the seat, which makes it really hard to get it off and (presumably) to put it back on. It's almost like the cover wasn't designed to be removed from the seat.

Knowing this, I'm not sure if I'd purchase it again... I might spring for a more expensive seat that was easier to maintain. If you have a small child, it is a certainty that you will have to wash the cover on a fairly regular basis, and I would prefer not to have to waste my time messing with this.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic seat for the price!   January 3, 2009
These are a terrific and affordable alternative to belt-positioners for those who would like to extend the time their kids remain in a 5-point restraint.

I bought a pair of these seats for my 3-year old twins who are getting too tall for their convertible seats but aren't yet mature enough for a belt-postioning booster. My order shipped immediately and arrived the next business day.

The seats are a pretty silver and black, not the drab gray I was expecting. They are fresh seats (4.5 months since manufacture date). Setup was easy and they fit in my Impala nicely thanks to the 3-position recline adjustment. They are large seats (don't expect anyone to sit between a pair of them) but the weight isn't bad and they seem quite sturdy and supportive. The sides wrap around more than I was expecting which is a plus for side impact protection and dozing noggins. The best part is that they can remain in a 5-point harness to 65 pounds or 52" which, according to the growth charts, will be around age 8-9 for my guys! And when they're ready for a belt-positioner or backless booster, no need for a new seat!

The kids LOVE their big-boy seats and they seem very comfortable. It would be nice if the cup holder popped out for cleaning but then again, they'd just pull them out to throw at each other if they did.
