5 out of 5 stars Great Product!   November 4, 2008
These wheels attached easily to our Britax Boulevard. It made our trip easy since we had one for each of our children (ages 2 and 9 months) and we were able to just wheel them through the airport! We have used these a few times and some airlines have skinnier aisles than others. A word of advice would be to always pre-board if you will be using the seats on the plane. That way if the seat doesn't fit down the aisle you will be able to make a couple of trips (one for the child and one for the seat). Otherwise most airlines will allow you to check the seat at the gate. These make it so simple to bring your car seats with you on trips. (You won't have to worry about the seat being abused if checked with the baggage, and you won't have to worry about renting one at your destination). I will be using these every time we travel!

5 out of 5 stars Made my plane trip easier   October 14, 2008
I purchased this for a recent plane trip with my 18-month old. I was deciding between this product and the CARES harness. I'm glad I decided on buying this product instead of the harness since I think the flight went much smoother with my son in a carseat. I had an extra seat for him and he behaved well in the carseat. I think if he had been in the harness he would have found a way to wiggle out of it, and I also don't think it would have been nearly as comfortable as his carseat.

This also made it easy to get around in the airport - the wheels glide effortlessly, and I love the fact that the pull handle can adjust to different heights (since I am short and my husband is tall).

The wheels are easily removed which was great since it meant that I didn't have to remove the whole thing from the carseat to put it in the plane. I just popped the wheels off and strapped the carseat onto the plane. However even with the wheels off it did not fit in any x-ray machine at security, so I had them hand check it (which only took 2 minutes).

Overall I would highly recommend this for any parent who decides to take their carseat with them on the plane.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent way to make air travel easier...   September 28, 2008

Purchased this before a trip to hopefully make the trip a bit easier. The travelmate attached easily to our Britax Boulevard. I mounted the travelmate to the seat prior to leaving the house. The travelmate easily fit on the back of the car seat when installed in our Subaru Outback via the Latch system with the wheels removed.

Upon arriving at the airport I removed the Britax Boulevard from the vehicle and reinstalled the wheels (takes about 5 seconds). It did not fit through the x-ray machine at Portland International Jetport so the TSA rep did a hand scan of the seat.

To install the seat on the plane I removed the wheels and asked the flight attendant for a seatbelt extender. I had to route the seatbelt around the armrest to take up enough slack but the seat was snug.

I think flying with a car seat as big as the Britax Boulevard would be difficult solo. Having someone to hold the baby during the seat install is essential.

The seat fit through the x-ray w/ the wheels on during the return trip from Pittsburgh International Airport. Only one flight attendant gave me attitude about bringing the seat on the plane (eventhough we had purchased a seat for the baby). He demanded to see the airline approval sticker on the seat so i'd suggest that you highlight the decal on your seat that says that it's approved for flight just in case. This guy was being a real son of a ***** for no reason.

Overall we had a great trip w/ the GoGo Kidz Travelmate and highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Makes plane travel more pleasant   June 29, 2008
I never used to think it made sense putting a child in a car seat on a plane, because I've always thought that any serious problems flying would probably be too dire for a car seat to offer much protection. With our first child we always held him when we flew, but we quickly learned as he got older that it was quite a chore to contain him if he did not want to be contained. When our second child came along, we decided we had nothing to lose by trying a car seat, but I felt we would have too much stuff and I should look for a way to wheel the car seat on.

I first tried a Sit-N-Stroll, which is a car seat with built in handle and retractable wheels. This looked like a great idea, but I couldn't get it mounted in my car tightly enough. Something about the shape of the car seat and the shape of the Sit-N-Stroll just didn't go together, so I never got to try it on a plane.

Then a GoGo Kidz was recommended as an alternative, and it has worked out better than I could have hoped. The way I use it is before the trip I mount the GoGo Kidz onto the car seat, leaving the wheels off, and then install it in my car (I'm using the car seat forward-facing). At the airport I take the car seat out of the car, pop the wheels on, and we're ready to go.

One time at the security checkpoint they were using a smaller scanner and had to wand the Roundabout plus GoGo Kidz, but the TSA just did it, no problem. Other times with a larger scanner it has all gone through fine.

So far I've been able to roll the unit down the aisle with child strapped in. Once at the seat I lift the whole thing into the seat, pop the wheels off, then use the seat belt to secure the car seat.

With or without the GoGo Kidz, seems like mounting the car seat on an airplane is a pain because the belt buckle can get into an awkward position as it passes through the back of the Roundabout, plus you want to leave yourself with enough room that you can "lift the flap on the buckle" to release the seat belt when you are ready to disembark. You should not need to remove the GoGo Kidz (though you certainly can if you decide you need a bit more space). But having the GoGo Kidz there does restrict somewhat where you can put your hands to get at the belt.

The first time you try it, helps to have someone else hold the baby while you fiddle with getting the seat belted in.

We have not used it on an airplane yet but the carseat fits great!
