Excellent Crib December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered the Da Vinci Kalani over a month ago, and it only just got here last week. Evidently there were some supply issues. The item ships directly from the manufacturer (Million Dollar Baby) out in California, so it did take some time for it to get all the way to where I am, in Virginia.
Well, once the crib did arrive, it was really quite easy to put together. I had been suffering from tendonitis in my right wrist which makes screwing things in a bit of a challenge, but I got through this all right, with the help of an electric screwdriver. If you're going to buy ANY of the Da Vinci line of products, buy an electric screwdriver. The combo dresser has over 150 screws, the hutch slightly less than that, and the crib the least of all. But seriously, buy an electric screwdriver. A good enough one can be had for $20, and your wrists and hands will thank you.
The instructions are mostly pretty clear, the diagrams only mildly confusing at times. Overall build construction is extremely solid. So solid I feel like I could get in there and be all right (which is nothing I will try anytime soon). The crib itself, once assembled, looks absolutely beautiful. The cherry finish is great. The only reason this crib gets 4 starts instead of 5 is the finish. The finish looks great, but it DOES scuff and scratch relatively easily. It will be interesting to see what happens to the finish as our son grows (due very soon).
On the whole though, a really great looking, sturdy crib. Worth it for the conversion possibilities all by itself.
Beautiful Crib December 16, 2008 Beautiful crib! We looked at numerous cribs and loved this one. It was alittle difficult to assemble but definitely worth the trouble. Would recommend this to my friends.
Great crib! Worth the price. November 12, 2008 I was lucky and my parents purchased this for me for my first child. The crib is just beautiful! It's very sturdy and my husband was able to put it together in an afternoon. In seven months I've only found one scratch, and we have cats and dogs and a busy household.
I like the fact that we'll be able to use this for many years. It may be pricey but if you consider the long run you'll save money (and the hassle) of having to purchase a toddler bed. (And it goes just great with the Zanzibar nursery theme!)
I'm expecting again and will be purchasing another DaVinci crib!
Beautiful Crib November 5, 2008 Great crib and not too hard to put together. All pieces came perfect. must follow directions and they're not the greatest. Very sturdy but does scratch easily. overall I love it.
Excellent Crib October 12, 2008 I was impressed to see that this is actually made from solid wood. It looks great and was straight forward to put together. Keep the baby monitor on or the door open-since they make the slat openings wide enough that a baby won't get jammed in, our little kicker has gotten herself in some awkward positions with each leg through a different slat. No worries so far of her getting hurt-I just pick her up, snuggle her for a few seconds and all is well. Overall I am really happy with this crib-Baby sleeps great having plenty of room to sprawl out.
