Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic pump, great value, and excellent customer service!   August 26, 2008
This pump is fantastic, and I couldn't say enough about it. I was hesitant to spend the big bucks on the Medela, but this pump works just as well for considerably less money. I exclusively pumped for 4 months, and three of the those months I was workign full-time. This product comes with everything you need to travel, and is strong enough that I was able to pump enough milk for my baby to drink 100% BM, and have extra to freeze. Also, I put one of the rubber valves through the garbage disposal, and Playtex overnighted me a replacement part at no charge. I was amazed and delighted with their customer service, but you need to complete the warranty card when you receive the item.

For any moms out there who need a heavy-duty pump, I strongly recommend this product. I couldn't have been happier!

1 out of 5 stars Loud, ineffecient, expensive pump that cannot be returned   February 14, 2008

I purchased this product after reading a few reviews. It is a terrible pump. First off, I pumped every 3 hours for the first 3 weeks and my milk supply decreased! Fearing that I would not be able to regain my milk supply, I immediately rented a true hospital grade pump (Medela) which I think is the best around.

Playtex cups are painful to use. They say it massages your breast, but try using anything made out of rubber and rub it against something else and you will see there is friction...Like rubber on the bottom of shoes keep you from slipping. I had a few open cuts from it!

The pump is extremely loud! I called Playtex to ask them about it and the customer rep said that it is supposed to sound like that! I couldn't believe it! If you are trying to be discreet and considering using it at work or in the middle of the night, I would not recommend this pump. Again, the Medela Symphony is quieter on its strongest setting than the Playtex is on its weakest setting. It is loud enough that when watching t.v. I have to set the volume higher to hear it!

The saddest thing about the purchase to me was that the company can make all the claims in the world and even if it isn't true, you CANNOT return any open items! I was extremely unhappy with the purchase and now am stuck with an expensive product that I will never use. The company made their money...I guess that's all that matters to them!

I have a pump for sale...Any takers? Ha ha!

5 out of 5 stars A life saver   May 13, 2007

I just had my first baby and had only 6 weeks maternity leave, so I bought the Platex pump after reading several reviews that said that it and the Medela were the best commercially available electric pumps. It works wonderfully. It feels a lot like a baby's mouth sucking your breast and I am able to painlessly pump 4 bottles per day so that I can continue breastfeeding while going back to work. I was able to use it to stockpile milk in the freezer while I was on maternity leave, as well as to start our baby on 1 bottle per day after her 3rd week so that she could seamlessly transition to taking the bottle from my husband after I returned to work. I have no complaints about this pump. It allowed us to transition me back to work without a hitch in the baby's schedule. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I'd hoped for   March 19, 2007

I have only used this pump twice; the first time I used the pump, I was very diasppointed: I have quick let down and my baby nurses rapidly so I opted to use the greater strength suction in conjunction with the fastest speed available on the machine. The result: It took me half an hour to pump just under an ounce of milk!!!
After chatting to a lady at the Pump Station, she advised that:

1) Instead of pumping at night when the milk supply is at its lowest (which I had done), I should pump at the same time each morning.
2) I not use the strongest suction (which was very painful and almost gave my nipple blisters), but rather, progress gradually as a baby does.

The next day, I pumped at 10am. Before doing so, I massaged my breasts inward toward the nipple a couple of times to stimulate the supply, and.... VOILA!... I pumped 3 oz in 8 minutes! I didn't even need to use the greatest strength suction, instead, I opted to use the second level speed available and gradually increased the speed.

Some things to look out for:
1) If, for some reason, you do want to use the greatest strength suction (I can't imagine you'd need to even if your baby nurses hard like mine does) it reduces the speed of the machine. So, you have to choose between the strength of the suction or the speed but cannot have both at the same time!!!
2) Make sure you position the cups at the center of your nipple. It took me a few tries the second time round. Hint: 1) Your should not feel your skin around the nipple/on your breast being suctioned or pulled 2) If you are unsure about the position of the pump, have a look in the mirror to check the imprint that the suction cup makes on your nipple to be sure.
3) Make sure that all parts of the system are clean/sterilzed and bone dry before using
4) There is NO need to sterilize or wash the tube that attaches to the pump (I've been told it will clog the system)

I hope this helps you with your purchase!
