Product Description The BornFree nipples are extremely soft and gentle for your baby to suckle and are available in 5 flow rates to suit babies from 0-18 months. Due to the unique BornFree valve, the nipples prevent the hard suckling needed with conventional bottles. Includes 2 nipples per pack.

I'll echo the sentiment October 20, 2008 We've been happy with the Born Free products, but one has to wonder if they even tried these variable flow nipples on any test subjects. They don't work... simple as that. Heavy flow no matter which position you have it in. Our 7 month old son got fed up with them and pushed the bottle away after trying it. We attempted 2 other times, and the little guy knows and still pushes it away.
Canton Mommy August 21, 2008 I agree with the other reviewers who said that the nipple is just too fast. Only buy these if your baby is OLDER than 6 months. These can not be used for babies under than age, without the baby gobbling down the milk and then spitting it up because he/she couldn't tell they were already full. Just spend the money and go for the level nipples up until 6 months...after that it SHOULD be ok. Be good to the children and have fun with them!!
Do not purchase the Variable Nipples August 3, 2008 I tried using the variable nipples when my son was 3 months old. He choked every time I tried to use them. I thought it was him and that he just wasn't ready for the nipple. I tried them again at 5 months, and I received the same choking result. I finally read the reviews and was horrified to see similar reports. I felt like a terrible mother for having waited so long to read the reviews and for thinking it was that my son was not ready. We purchased the Level 2 nipples today, and he did not choke and finished his bottle in half the time. I would strongly recommend not using the variable nipples.
Niagra Falls no matter which position you use June 3, 2008 Levels 2 & 3 were out of stock everywhere, even Amazon. So I went to Babies R Us and the only thing they had left was this one item within a 50 mile radius (high demand for Born Free!). Thought I'd give it a try since we've been waiting forever and my baby's only getting bigger. Bad decision! Regardless of how you tilt the nipple opening, it'll flow like the Niagra Falls. My baby was somewhat fine while sucking (though I could hear the too-big gulps) but when pausing to take a breath, mouth would get flooded with milk and baby would gag and choke for life. Used it twice and threw it away. Will wait for levels 2 and 3 to come. Great concept but a total failure in execution. Waste of $7. Wish I read these reviews before I bought them.
Born free variable nipples May 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased these bottles and since the store was out of stage 2 nipples, I purchased the variable flow. I've spent 3 days trying to figure out what I am doing wrong as the flow is so fast no matter how I turn it. My 4 month old just ends up gagging and crying. What a waste of money, do not buy these nipples.
