Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Tot Lok is a patented, magnetic locking system that helps keep household cabinets and drawers closed to toddlers. This four-lock set includes four lock assemblies that are completely concealed from view when in place. Key required to open Tot Loks sold separately. Comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Editorial Review
Parents swear by these magnetic door and drawer locks. Unlike typical plastic levers, these locks keep doors shut all the way. So there is no place for little fingers to get in and get pinched. Unlock the mechanism by holding the magnetic key (sold separately) on the outside of the door near where the lock is mounted. Flipping a lever disengages the lock and allows normal operation of drawers or doors. These locks will fit doors from 0.5 inch thick to over 1.5 inches thick. The mounting instructions are not quite as user-friendly as the locks themselves, but they do come with a handy template that adheres in place. Keep the key in one location for reliable retrieval and keep an extra one around, just in case. --Trilby Cohen

1 out of 5 stars tot loks work   March 3, 2008

I installed the totlocks on the bottom cupboards in my daycare area. They are not visible from the room and do a great job of making the cupboards not
accessible to the little ones. I keep the magnet on a top shelf that is easy for me to see and reach. Having used a combination of drawer/shelf protectors in the past, I love that these are unseen and do not make any
marks on the front of the wood.

These are spectacular items. Every home that has a youngster should have these installed.

3 out of 5 stars OK lock but I have problems with it   December 29, 2006
Like everyone else said, the instructions are terrible and it is really hard to install. I managed to install it to a perfect fit and it works ok but if you pull hard enough the door will still open. My son is pretty strong for a 16 month old and if he really tried, I think he would be able to open it with a little elbow grease. It is an OK product but I wonder if others have the same problem I have with pulling it with a little strength and having the cabinet doors still be able to open? I would love to hear from others and their comments on my problem.

This is an effective method to keep kids out of dangerous kitchen cabinets. The magnetic key can be stored high on the fridge or anywhere out of a child's reach. A little install time is worth effort. Door latches can be left on cabinets after kids are older, pins are provided to disable the locking mechanism. I have seen my two year old niece figure out the push down latches, these locks are child proof.

5 out of 5 stars Poor installation instructions, but a superb product.   July 26, 2006

I'd have to agree with Kirsten Howell on pretty much every aspect of her review. The instructions are nearly worthless, so I ended up doing precisely the same thing (that is before reading her review).

For those who complain about this set not having a key, you should use the "Starter Kit". From having purchased one of these at Babys R Us (the stone and mortar version), I know that the starter kits come with the key. There is also a starter kit with 8 locks that doesn't appear to be available online.

This is a highly recommended product, but be ready for unnecessary holes in the cabinet if you don't follow the reviewer's instructions. I am here to purchase additional kits due to the current lack of availability locally.

1. Apply the hasp to cabinet first.
2. Lean into cabinet and mark the location (and more importantly the lower margin of the hasp) with a pencil.
3. Apply the template with the upper dotted line even with the lower edge of the cabinet frame. I'd recommend using longer screws, in my case I went with larger diameter as well as the small screws included in the set just didn't give a great "bite" on the wood. (I believe that I used a number 8 1" screw, but don't take that as certain.)
4. Punch out the hole so allow the lock to be hung from the template and make minor adjustments until it is in place (there is a bit of "play" available, but probably not more than approximately 1/8th inch or so).
5. Drill using the depth guide making sure that it doesn't slide! I'd suggest underdrilling then carefully removing minute amounts of material from the hole until the product fits just to make sure that you don't drill all of the way through the cabinet.
6. Once the lock is in place, drill and place the first screw (your choice). Once the lock is tight, in place, and level, then drill the other three holes.
