Excellent! I defintly will recommend this product to my friends! November 2, 2008 I am very happy with the monitor. It is very easy to use and the battery lasts for a long time. The picture quality could be better, but it is great to be able to "check" on the little one while she sleeps and plays in her crib without having to go into her room and disturb her. Money well spent!
Can't live without it! October 27, 2008 "Hands down the best thing I received as a baby shower gift. No sound interception at all, excellent image even in pitch dark. You can even see your baby breathing the image is so good. It saved me during sleep training and helped keep me from needlessly entering his room and thus waking him."
Finally - a static-free video monitor! October 21, 2008 We just had a new baby and bought this to replace our Sony MobiCam that we've been using with our toddler. I couldn't bring myself to buy another MobiCam camera since the picture on the first one is so bad. It is definitely our house, as the MobiCam works elsewhere (sometimes) but at home the picture has a lot of interference and the sound is useless. We decided to spring for the Summer monitor and cross our fingers that it would work... and it DOES! The picture is totally clear with no lines, static, or fuzz. The sound even works too... I was surprised to hear every gurgle and sniffle of the new baby when he was upstairs snoozing and I was downstairs. Wow. One note, we can't have the MobiCam on at the same time... the 2 devices interfere with one another... so we just ordered a second camera for our toddler's room and then it's goodbye MobiCam.
Does the job October 18, 2008 Have realistic expectations when buying this video monitor and you'll be happy with your investment. The picture quality is good (especially in dimly lit rooms), the video camera head is very light weight and tilts in four directions (ours hangs on the wall just above the crib suspended on a thumb tack!), and the battery so far has been really good (I've forgotten to plug it in a few nights and it's still juiced up). So, realistic expectations...
1) Don't expect to see the same vivid imagery of your baby that they promote in their packaging. Most likely you'll be setting up the monitor a safe distance from your baby's head/body so you'll get a more complete picture of your baby's body- not the close-up mug shots featured in the ads. The colors will not be as vibrant either, unless your little one has an affinity for sleeping in a very brightly lit room.
2) Do expect some feedback on your receiver. There are six degrees of 'noise' (green to red) to alert you of sounds in the room. I've become accustomed to only paying attention when I see it register 4+ repeatedly and with some length (feedback registers short bursts of 4+ and is common for my house). The feedback is audible so unfortunately I have to turn the sound down very very low at night (just enough to hear a cry), or I am awakened by the hisses all night.
3) You can't control how long the video display stays on when the received is not plugged into the wall, so if you're downstairs and want to see your baby constantly you will need it to be plugged in. Otherwise it will go to sound-only after about 3 minutes.
I would prefer that it came with two video monitors, because sometimes baby falls asleep in another 'regular' nap spot that you'd like to watch. Also it would be great if it were possible to move the video head remotely (so that when baby squirms out of view you can find her) but I don't expect to see that on a household product such as this. Overall I've been really happy with this tool, aside from the feedback annoyances, which channel switching doesn't seem to fix. (We do have a wireless router and cordless phones throughout the house)
Great for checking on baby without entering the room and as a nightlight for those late-night feedings! October 7, 2008 We love this monitor! You could live with a simple sound monitor, but my husband and I love gadgets so we both agreed to get this despite the cost. Our daughter is now 3 months. It has the obvious benefits of being able to see her when sleeping and to check in on her when we hear noises but don't want to go into the room if it is not necessary. An added bonus is to use the monitor as a nightlight/flashlight when I go to her room for those late night feedings. We recently moved and this has proved to be invaluable to help me navigate around boxes in the hall! Battery life is great. I plug it in at night and use it all day around the house. The one down side is that I cannot talk on our wireless house phone in our daughters room without turning off the base because the frequencies interfere with each other. I have also found the video monitor to be valuable when babysitting older children who can get out of their crib/bed. It lets me watch them and know when I need to go into the room to put them back in bed :) When we no longer need it for our children, I will probably use it to watch the dog at night!
